KiVa anti-bullyin program in Finland

KiVa is a research-based antibullying program that has been developed in the University of Turku, Finland, with funding from the Ministry of Education and Culture. The effectiveness of KiVa has been shown in a large randomized controlled trial. In Finland, KiVa is a sought-after program: 90 % of all comprehensive schools in the country are registered KiVa schools implementing the program.

The Components of KiVa

The KiVa program involves both universal and indicated actions to prevent bullying and to tackle cases of bullying coming to attention.
The universal actions are targeted at all students in a school. They refer to efforts made to influence the group norms and to build capacity in all children to behave in constructive ways, to take responsibility for not encouraging bullying, and to support the victims.

KiVa program is effective in reducing bullying

KiVa has been evaluated in a large randomized controlled trial including 117 intervention schools and 117 control schools. The program has been shown to reduce both self- and peer-reported bullying and victimization significantly. It influences multiple form of victimization, including verbal, physical, and cyberbullying. In addition, positive effects on school liking, academic motivation and achievement have been reported. KiVa also reduces anxiety and depression and has a positive impact on students' perception of their peer climate. A remarkable 98% of victims involved in discussions with the schools' KiVa teams felt that their situation improved. Finally, Finnish data from more than 1000 schools that started the implementation of KiVa in fall 2009 showed that after the first year of implementation, both victimization and bullying had reduced significantly. KiVa program won the European Crime Prevention Award in 2009, Social Policy Award for Best Article in 2012 and four National Awards in 2008, 2010, 2011 and 2012.

Kiva ikerketan oinarrituriko bullying aurkako programa da. Finlandian egin da  eta batez ere Turku-ko Unibertsitateak eraman du aurrera Hezkuntza eta Kultura Ministeritzako finanziazioarekin. Programa honen eraginkortasuna ebaluazioaren bidez frogatu omen da eta Finlandian ospe eta eskaera asko duen programa da: Finlandiako oinarrizko hezkuntzako ikastexeeen %90 programaren barruan daudelarik.

KiVa-ren osagaiak
Programa bi ekintza mota suspertzen ditu: orokorrak eta bullying antzemateko eta aurreikusteko berariazko jarduerak eta ekintzak.
Jarduera orokorrak ikastetxeko ikasle guztientzat zuzenduta daude .Jarduera hauek talde arauak, jokaera konstruktiboak, ardura pertsonala bullying aurrean eta biktimak laguntzeko eta babesteko jarrerak suspertzea dute helburutzat.

KiVa programa eraginkorra suertatu da bullying-a gutxitzen

KiVa ebaluatua izan da 117 ikastetxeetan. Ebaluazioak erakutsi du programa honek bullying kasuak gutxitu egin direla era esanguratsuan. Eragina izan du bullying era desberdinetan eta baita ere eragin positiboa izan du ikasteko motibazioan eta emaitzetan. Era berean ematen du bai ikasleengan depresioa, eta antsietate mailak jeisten dituela eta eskola giroan hobekuntza nabariak ere ikusi dira.
Ebaluatu diren ikastetxeetako  ikasle biktimizatuen %98 pentsatzen du bere egoera orohar hobetu dela
Bukatzeko, 1000 ikastexeetan jasotako datuen arabera KiVa implementazioaren lehendabiziko urtean aldaketak nabariak zirela erakusten dute.
KiVa programak European Crime Prevention Award saria irabazi zuen 2009 urtean, Social Policy Award saria 2012an  eta lau National Award sariak  2008, 2010, 2011 eta 2012 urteetan.
